Euro debate

Today, I tried to do a debate about the Euro with a class of 15-16 year olds. We read a text about British attitudes to the Euro, I drew some mad graphs on the board and told stories involving cake (I was hungry). So, after some preparation time, we started with the debate. The boys sit on the right, the girls on the left, so it was split along gender lines. All was well... they were playing along, then...

One girl made the point that lots of goods became more expensive when the Euro was introduced.

The response from the males?

"And your clotheses? Put off your clotheses!"

"WHAT?!" (This was in chorus)

His friends edged away from him.... I'm not really sure what he was trying to say, but I'm not sure that it had much to do with monetary union.
